Second Step Curriculum: Each class particpates in a 30 minute session with the counselor each week
The School Counselors are concentrating on a universal K-12 violence prevention program to facilitate common language and concepts students may use in daily interactions. K-8 is utilizing the Second Step Violence Prevention Curriculum that was developed by “Committee for Children”. This program is based on the Cognitive Behavioral Theory and targets the development of empathy, problem solving, impulse control, and emotion/anger management. These base skills may be further applied in instances of bullying, making positive choices, friendship development and conflict resolution. The secondary counselors are helping further develop these same skills as students move forward beyond the high school setting.
